Teri Roiger and John Menegon
Teri Roiger and John Menegon’s music has taken many twists
and turns over the years. Teri basically is a jazz vocalist, but
also plays piano. John is a jazz bassist, but also sings and plays
guitar. They both compose music and lyrics, and often collaborate
on writing. John played with the two great Texas tenor players for
over a ten year period, David Fathead Newman and Dewey Redman. Teri
and John both have been teaching Jazz at SUNY New Paltz for the
past ten years. The depth of their experiences and love of jazz
are apparent when they bring all of their combined experience together
in live performance.
"John MENEGON met the demands of the music with a
combination of relaxed swing and more outward-looking freedom. His
solos were the perfect confluence of rhythmic invention and melodic
conception." -- John Kelman, AllAboutJazz-New York"Roiger is in the first rank of jazz vocalists, now
and historically. Her vocals always sweet, strong, and on target…Menegon’s
bass playing precisely all around the tune, complementing the full
tones of her voice. The lines of musical communication between these
two are wide open, well traveled…very rich, very full, very
moving." -- Daily Freeman
Saturday 9/3 on Wall Street
Peggy Stern & "Sweet" Sue Terry
"When [Peggy and Sue] played at the Mary Lou Williams Women
in Jazz Festival [Kennedy Center, DC, May 21st], it was so abundantly
clear that these women love what they do….they had a genuinely
friendly and joyful affect when they interacted with the audience
as if we were all old friends hanging out in her living room. …crisp
and precise yet soulful, humble and relaxed. Both she and Peggy
cheerfully shared the stories behind their compositions.… All
I can say is that both of them were just so COOL. 'Sweet' Sue
Terry played the alto saxophone as well as the clarinet on the tunes
they performed. I just loved it! Sue’s music was indeed sweet
and she and Peggy had a sweet sisterly vibe that was really refreshing
and made me smile." -- Jazz Virtuosa
Yamaha Artist 'Sweet' Sue Terry plays alto & soprano saxophones,
clarinet, flute, and wood/clay flutes, and has performed and recorded
with numerous Jazz VIPs in the US and abroad, including Dr. Billy
Taylor, Chaka Khan, Clark Terry, Al Jarreau, Barry Harris, and
many more. Sweet Sue has been a jazz soloist with the Brooklyn
Philharmonic, the National Symphony, the New York Pops, the Hartford
Symphony, and many other ensembles. As an educator, she is the
author of the acclaimed book Practice Like The Pros and other
instruction books. Her discography contains over forty recordings,
including three as leader and three as co-leader. Her most recent
projects are a 2010 e-book release titled "Greatest Hits
of The Blog That Ate Brooklyn: Inside the Mind of a Musician" and
a new album with pianist Peggy Stern titled "The Art of the
Duo", recorded live at the Palladium in St. Petersburg, Florida.

power and depth of Amy Shook's bass on "Just You/Just Me" will
remind you why you spent all that money.” ~Thomas Conrad,
Jazztimes Magazine, Oct. 2007“Amy Shook builds tension in her blues march groove to climax
with the inclusion of the rhythm section and the harmonious horns
that float, swirl, roll and boil to a gentle simmer, giving way
to graceful poise.”“So Far From Home should be in every straight-ahead,
jazz lover's house.” ~Paul J. Youngman, www.jazzreview.com.
2009
Since moving to the east coast in 2003, Amy Shook has become one
of the most in-demand upright bassists in the Baltimore/Washington,
D.C. area, coveted for her huge sound and infectious, driving groove.
She is an incredibly versatile musician who enjoys playing jazz
standards as well as new music by her local colleagues. She is also
an accomplished composer, and her personality truly comes through
in her writing.
The Shook/Russo Quartet has been working together for nearly six
years in the Baltimore/ Washington, D.C. area. Their focus has always
been to compose and perform their own original music within the
jazz idiom, honoring the masters by carrying on the tradition. The
